Lawrence F. Glatz Professor of German, The Metropolitan State College of Denver After receiving an Honors B.A. in German from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984, I pursued graduate study in German Literature at the Pennsylvania State University. I was awarded the M.A. in 1988 and the Ph.D. in 1995. My dissertation was directed by Manfred Keune. I also studied at the universities of Munich (Junior Year in Munich Program 1982-83), Kiel (Penn State Exchange Fellowship 1986-87), Hamburg and Berlin (German Academic Exchange Fellowship 1992-93). I returned to Germany on Sabbatical Leave for the academic year 2007-08 with a Fulbright Senior Lecturer and Researcher award to the University of Siegen. Research Interests My current research involves the writings of Nobel Prize for Literature laureate Heinrich Böll (1917-1985), about whom I maintain this website, and the Online Böll Biographical Database. I published in 1999 a major study on the topics of history, crime, violence and the victim in both Böll's nonfictional and fictional works: Heinrich Böll als Moralist [Heinrich Böll as Moralist], available from Peter Lang, Publishing. I have also presented papers on the role of computer-mediated instruction and materials, technology in teacher training, and Business German and the WWW. Professional Affiliations A former Chapter President and Webmaster of the Colorado/Wyoming Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG), I am a Life Member of this national association. Active in the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and the Small Undergraduate German Programs Special Interest Group of ACTFL, I served in the latter as Chair and remain the Webmaster. A former voting Board Member of the Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers (CCFLT), I served also from May, 2000 to May, 2005 as the Webmaster, a non-voting member of the Board.
